Embrace Purity- Save the
World
Richard Salbato 6-29-2009
I have always been so
impressed by the rapid expansion of the early Church and the methods of that
expansion. Of course, the very early
Church was backed up by many miracles to prove the truth they were saying. There were many reasons these miracles were needed
at that time, but the biggest is the fact that these teaching were radically
different and required a radical change in life without compromise.
In just a few years the
Church spread throughout the Middle East,
Putting aside the miracles of
the early Church, what really converted so many people so fast, was the radical sharp contrast in life styles.
Let’s use
Unable to make inroads into
the tribes because of their fear of the Witch Doctors, the missionaries asked
the Witch Doctors if (instead of killing these babies) these missionaries could
take the new-born children away from the village to their monasteries.
The missionaries did not try
to convert the tribes, they just raised the children. They baptized them, taught them to read and
write. They taught them to talk and act
like ladies and gentlemen, to bathe and fix their hair. They showed them how to
make clothes, to plant food, to raise livestock. When older than taught them the values of purity
of body and mind and the way to treat others with love and respect. They showed them why it was wrong to pierce
their noses and ears or paint their faces.
They taught the equality of men and women, and something very new to
When these young men and
woman reached the age of adulthood, the young tribe people noticed how
beautiful and different they were. So
attracted were they to them that they came to find out the secret to their,
what shall we call it, radical difference.
It was this radical contrast in life styles that converted a great part
of
No one loved the Witch
Doctors, they only feared them. They
forced young women to live with whomsoever they wanted them to and as many
woman as they wanted. By this method, they gained the support of the men, but
not the women. In fact, the women were
slaves to the men. But the missionaries
and their converts were not afraid of these phony Witch Doctors.
The same radical sharp contrast in life styles was used with the North and
South American Indians, and today you can see the thousands of Churches and Monasteries
build hundreds of years ago, when their existed mostly native Americans.
When you read the history of
the Jews before Christ, you see over and over how God punished them for
compromising with the society around them, instead of holding tight to their
uncompromising way of life.
Like a well trained army
marching towards Heaven, you could always tell a Catholic anywhere in the world
by the way they dressed, and conducted themselves. Even in their worship, except
for language, you could find little differences between
Now, tell me or yourself, can
you see today a radical sharp
contrast in life styles between Catholics and non-Catholics in
What happened? Prior to World War II, things were very
different than today. I don’t remember
the war because I was too young, but I do remember the end of the war. There
were problems and some changes caused by the war – women living away from their
parents before marriage for the first time, the beginning of dating, the start
of woman drinking, a slight change in clothes styles. Nevertheless, in the 50s morals and
restrained behavior were the norm and not the exception.
Then little by little there was
the never ending but very slight changes in talk, actions, dress, and more
important, the attitude against good people.
These changes started slowly at first, maybe a new but not moral word
making its way around the youth like a virus.
Almost unnoticed changes in the way people dress. Slightly more aggressive women became
acceptable and even admired.
The Church teaches that even
the most innocent venial sins corrupt the mind and little by little lead to
moral sins and deadly habitual thinking.
The same is true of giving in to the social pressure of going along with
gradual changes.
Parents started having
pressure from their children, “Everyone is doing it. I will be out of place and everyone will
laugh at me. No one brings their parents along, people will laugh at me. That
is out of style.” The start of the
so-called age gap came because the movement of glorifying badness started with
the young.
Parents started compromising
for peace in the family, and then they found themselves compromising more and
more until there was no moral control at all.
Sadly, these children of the sixties and seventies have become parents, themselves. Worse than that, the children of the 60s and
70s have become the school teachers.
Just blending in or going
along with the style of the time is not the real truth. When a young man gets a tattoo, he wants to
say to everyone around him: “I am bad.” I
young girl who shows of her body in an immoral way, or pierces her nose, like
the Africans, is wanted everyone around her to know: “I am bad.”
We need a sharp contrast to this so they will see that “I am bad” is not
a good thing.
Proud of Purity
Now, let us look back to the
early Church. Just as the missionaries
proudly exhibited the purity of the children they raised without compromise, we
need to start all over with the young – young who understand the value and happiness
of purity of mind and body – young who are not afraid to share their commitment
to purity – young who want to evangelize by example the sharp contrast in life
styles. We need young men, who are not
ashamed to be virgins – strong, brave, masculine men, who do not compromise for
acceptance – leaders and not followers.
Let us train the young to
love to be different in an immoral world, and even let them teach their parents
the happiness they have in being leaders in a secular, immoral world. The older
mid-aged might be too set in their ways by habitual small sins and compromises
to ever change, but the young are not so far gone as to be molded. Like the children of early
We need children who will
show a sharp contrast that will make the secular world really see how immoral
they are. Contrast a real slut with a
girl who has only had a little sex, and you might say the second was moral, but
this is not true. Show a picture of a
Playboy bunny against a Hustler girl and you might say the Playboy is
moral. We need sharp contrasts, like Mother
Therese of
How do we start?
Years ago, a friend of mine
and I had the idea of retreats or clinics to teach young people values and
principles of purity and happiness. I
wrote then, what I think is still a good outline plan for this movement. What The
World Needs Now
To get this movement going,
we need a structured organization that can recruit teachers and attract the
young. What The World Needs Now is a good outline of how to
do this.
The best place to start is
the many Home Schooling groups because these parents and children have at least
the desire to stand out in contrast to a secular – immoral world.
These retreats or clinics
need to be in every city in
Now, I am too old to lead
this movement, so I am appealing to the already well organized Home Schoolers to come forth and over this leadership.
Let us create an army of
young people who will hold up a torch of purity as a sharp contrast the rest of
the world. This will attract followers,
instead of caving in to the never ending changes in life styles of the immoral
times.
