True Apparitions

If you study Scripture, you will see that there are no hidden mysteries in the Bible that were not being systematically revealed to the saints down through the ages. Prophets in the Bible like Isaias, Jeremias, Ezechiel, Daniel, Joel, Amos, Micheas, Zacharias, Malachiea, and more told what would happen in the future and revealed hidden mysteries of faith.

Saints, after the Apostles through the workings of the Holy Spirit, revealed more mysteries of the Church through proper interpretations of Scripture. Saints like Justin Martyr, Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch, Polycarp of Smyrna, Iranaeus, and Hegesippus, the Historian of Rome.

In the Third Century, seven young princes of the imperial court refused publicly to offer sacrifices to the idols and hid in a valley between two mountains with only one exit. The Emperor walled up the exit to let them die. However, God put them into a deep sleep, and two hundred years later they woke up and walked into the town of Ephesus to buy food. After their actual death, their bodies have remained uncorrupted.

There have always been approved prophets since the close of the Bible. Many of their prophets have made prophecies about our times and of the future, especially regarding the Antichrist.

All of these are prophets who have received private revelations from Heaven and have been investigated by the Church and found to be from God, or supernatural. This is a very good and proper way to learn about God, and about the future, but very dangerous if you are not guided by discernment. All of these have something else in common which you will see at the end of this booklet.

When we say apparitions, we are being lazy. For the lack of a better word that all will understand, this is a catch-all word for important historical revelations from God to the world for the building up of the Kingdom.

In this chapter we will overuse the word "apparition" when meaning "supernatural phenomena". There are many thousands of true private revelations and we could never give them all, each being important. Maybe every saint in history has had a revelation of some kind.

We have limited the true ones in this newsletter to those that had supernatural, historical, and universal importance. Some of those in the 20th century may turn out to be of universal importance, and so we will list all that we know about.

Some of the approved mystics, who received one or more of the different forms of private revelations in the first 1000 years are Hermes, Hyppolitus, Policarp, Augustine, Chrysostom, Gregory the Great, Lactantius, Jerome, Methodius, Cataldus, Remigius, Caesar of Arles, Bearcan, Senanus, Columbkille, Ultan, Merlin, Maeltamhlacht, Odile, Maurus, Leo, Edward, Hilarion, Malachy, Bechet, Hildegard, and Damascine, who saw the Virgin Mary.

BLESSED NUNO

On August 13, 1385, 532 years before the apparitions of Fatima, Blessed Nuno de Santa Maria (a Knight of the round table) was about to go to battle to save Portugal from losing its national independence. Outnumbered by his enemy Blessed Nuno and his army kneeled down to pray. Where? At the Cova da Iria, where Our Lady appeared 532 years later. When he knelt down to pray, the horses began to kneel also and he prayed to Our Lady and to Saint Michael, the guardian of Portugal and the Angel of Peace. After winning this battle he came back to this same site and offered thanksgiving for the victory. There is overwhelming evidence that St. Michael is the Angel of Peace and the guardian of Portugal from the history of the saints of Portugal, which can be found in Carlos Evaristo's book on Saint Michael. But let us go on to Fatima.Michael was made the angel of peace in Portugal many years before.

NAZARE & THE STATUE SAINT JOSEPH CARVED

About 45 minutes from Fatima is the beach town of Nazare.  It is called Nazare because in this town on the high mountain is a statue of the Virgin Mary and Christ Child carved by Saint Joseph in Nazareth when Christ was less than a year old.  In the forth century a monk named Ciriaco brought the statue to Bethlehem from Nazareth and gave it to Saint Girolamus who gave it to Saint Augustine. Augustine sent it to the monastery of Merida in Spain for safety.  When the Saracens invaded Spain, King Rodrioguez and a monk, named Brother Germanus took the statue to Sitio (Nazare) and hid it in a cave.   In 1181 AD Dom Fuas Roupinho was hunting deer on the same mountain where the cave with the statue was kept.  A deer posessed by the devil tried to draw him to his death by leading his horse to the edge of the cliff.  As the deer leaped over the cliff, his horse followed to the point that only his two back hoofs remained on the edge of the rocks.  There in mid air the horse froze with Dom Roupninho on his back.   In front of the Dom stood Our Lady.  He beseeched Her for help and was miraculously saved.  Dom had a chapel built at the spot and placed the famous statue in it.  Later the church was built and the statue moved to the high alter.   Among the millions of pilgrims who have prayed there are Vasco de Gama before going to India and Saint Francis Savior before going to Asia.

ALCOBACA, ABBEY OF SANTA MARIA

On the way to Nazare is another miracle of Our Lady.  In 1147, Dom Afonso Henriues, the first King of Portugal, conquered the area around Lisbon and the Esremadura.  Before the battle (he was greatly outnumbered with no chance of winning) he implored some Benedicting monks living in a small hut to pray for him.  He promised that if he won the battle he would build for them the largest monastery in the world.  After the miraculous victory angels went to Saint Benedict to announce the good news.  Benedict then appeared to Dom Henriues by bi-location with a set of plans for the monastery. For almost a thousand years this monastery housed 999 monks.

Most Holy Miracle of Santarem: Only a half hour from Fatima is the second greatest and second oldest Eucharistic Miracle in the world where a host turned to flesh and blood because of an attempted theft to conduct a Satanic Ritual.  Later because of irreverence another miracle took place as a glass container appeared around it to protect it.

BATALHA, ABBEY OF OUR LADY OF VICTORY

Dom Juao I was about to go to  battle against the Spanish on August 14, 1385.  He made a vow to Our Lady promising to build a monastery in her honor should he win the battle.  The Casilian army was much larger and he had no chance of winning.  After the battle he built one of the largest and most beautiful monasteries in Europe and re-named the place Batalha (battle).  Many Knights and Kings are buried there.

Santiago de Compostela, Resting-place of Saint James and the relics of his body in its silver casket.

First Century: Oviedo where a statue of Our Lord that came to life and said, "Do not visit the servant without visiting the Master." Meaning, "Do not go to Santiago without also going to Oviedo". The Cathedral of Oviedo has the face cloth of Christ which was placed on the body when it lay dead on the Cross, a Chest that was brought from the holy land by the followers of Christ containing the great treasures of the Church, the thorns of Christ’s Holy Crown, a Crucifix made by Saint Nichodemus, a box probably containing the bones of Saint José, one of the shoes of Saint Peter, and many other things.

722 AD: One of the oldest apparition sites of Our Lady in all of Spain and Portugal, Real Sitio De Covadonga where Dom Pelayo, first King of the Asturias led the first victory over the Moors in all the Iberian Peninsula in the year 722. Before this, the Christians had never won any victory over the Moors who took over spain in the year 711. Pelayo and a small band of Christians were hiding in a cave in the high mountains of Spain and Portugal and the Moors were marching towards them. The Christians were greatly outnumbered (some say hundreds to one) and the soldiers wanted a sign to show that God was with them to fight or run away. Dom Pelayo made a cross with two pieces of wood and held it up on an old Roman bridge in Cangas de Onis and said, "This will be our sign as it was for Constantine." They moved into the cave to make their stand and to fight, as the Moors came up from the valley below. As they were about to fight Our Lady appeared to Dom Pelayo without saying a word. When Pelayo turned away from her to see the Moors approaching and then turned back to Her to ask for help, She had disappeared and left behind a statue of Herself and the Christ Child dating back to the early Church fathers. Then the Christians saw angels on top of the other mountain pushing down rocks and large boulders down on the Moors below until few were left alive and the Christians cleaned up the rest. From Covadonga the counter offensive against the Moors continued until many years later they were all pushed out of Portugal and Spain. This statue still stands in the same spot in the cave and the cross Pelayo made is in the Reliquarium in Oviedo Cathedral.

The largest piece of the true cross in the world, and the only piece that you can actually touch and kiss, the Reliquia de la Santa Cruz, at the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liebana, The true cross was brought from Jerusalem by a Bishop named Toribio who was sacristan priest at the Holy Sepulcher for 7 years, until the Persians captured Jerusalem and took the Holy Relic. Toribio took a piece of the True Cross back with him to his native Spain where he built Santo Toribio de Liebanaa, a Monastery in the Cantabrian Mountains.
